Privacy
This page explains what ShrinkingMen (shrinkingmen.com) collects about you, why, and what you can do about it. If anything here is unclear, email [email protected].
What we collect
- Your account: your email address and your password. We store the password only as a salted hash, so we never see it.
- Your orders: what you bought, the price, the date and an order reference. Payments are taken by Stripe (or, if Stripe is ever unavailable, by Square): your card details go to them and never reach us.
- Your library: what you own, including anything you bought from the old ShrinkingMen shop, and where you got to in a story or recording, so you can carry on where you left off.
- Our mailing list: your email address, whether you're subscribed, where you joined and how many orders you've placed.
- Messages you send us, so we can answer them.
- Technical data: your IP address, used briefly to stop abuse (for example, too many sign-ups or checkouts from one place), and the standard logs kept by our hosting provider.
Cookies and your browser
We use one cookie, to keep you signed in. Your basket is kept in your own browser, not on our servers. There are no advertising or tracking cookies.
Why we use it
- To run your account and deliver what you buy (our contract with you).
- To keep the shop secure and prevent fraud (our legitimate interests).
- To email you about new releases and offers. If you're a customer, you can opt out at checkout and in every email. Otherwise, we only email you if you joined the list yourself and confirmed it from the email we sent.
- To keep sales records, as tax law requires.
Who helps us run the shop
- Cloudflare: hosting, our database and file storage.
- Stripe: card, Apple Pay and Google Pay payments.
- Square: our backup payment provider, and some earlier orders.
- Resend and Mailgun: sending account emails and newsletters.
Some of these providers process data outside the UK, under the safeguards UK data protection law requires. We never sell your data. Your ShrinkingMen account also works on our games site, play.shrinkingmen.com, which uses the same account details.
How long we keep it
- Your account stays until you delete it, or ask us to.
- Order records are kept for six years, for tax. If you delete your account, they're kept without your email or any link to you.
- You stay on the mailing list until you unsubscribe.
- Abuse-prevention data is kept only for a short time.
Your rights
You can ask to see the data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or object to how we use it. Email [email protected]. These rights apply under UK data protection law and, if you live in the EU, under the EU's GDPR.
Deleting your account: you can do this yourself at any time, from the bottom of your account page. It deletes your account straight away, here and on play.shrinkingmen.com, with everything tied to it: your email and password, your library, your reading places, any other emails you've added, your place on the mailing list and your game rewards. You'll lose access to everything you've bought, so download anything you want to keep first. We keep a record of past orders for six years because tax law requires it, but without your email or any link to you. The payment provider (Stripe, or Square for orders it took) keeps its own record of your payment, as the law requires it to. Every newsletter has an unsubscribe link. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Adults only
ShrinkingMen is for adults. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.
